Toyota Electrified Vehicles
October 19 2021, Kentville Toyota
With everyone racing towards evolving, Toyota has always led the pack. With the invention of the Prius in 1997, Toyota is committed to making the world a more efficient and sustainable place with hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric, and hydrogen fuel cell electric cars.
Toyota does not believe that a one solution fits all when it comes to electric vehicles. This is why the company has embarked on a journey to produce a range of electrified technologies that all utilize electricity to move a vehicle. The type of electricity will depend upon the powertrain of the vehicle. Canadians currently have the option of Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles, or Hydrogen Cell Electric Vehicles.
Hybrid Electric Vehicle
HEVs are a combination of gas engines with electric motors to produce electricity as one drive, which also indicates they never need to be plugged in. You can not only save fuel but also deliver instant torque when the vehicle is started up. The battery can also be charged up using excess energy. These cars are a great value, give you peace of mind while enjoying your ride, and are environmentally conscious.
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle
PHEVs operate in the same way as HEVs, but can likewise be plugged in for an extended electric-only range. Toyota provides great value on these vehicles as well, providing an environmentally safe ride for all. Examples of PHEVs include Prius Prime, RAV4 Prime, as well as others at Kentville Toyota.
Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle*
FCEVs utilize hydrogen as an energy source in conjunction with electric motors, emitting water as the only by-product from the tailpipe. As hydrogen is found in plants, manure, and water, it is in abundance. It is lighter than air and free of impurities, which is perfect for our environment.
The Mirai is the first-ever Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle that provides a silent ride with 0 CO2 emissions, a hydrogen refueling time of 5 minutes, a 500km driving range, and a -30 degrees Celsius starting range. The car itself is very nimble and handles excellently with a low center of gravity. Hydrogen fuel stations are up and running with new ones under development.
